Collision on Trans-Canada Highway snarls traffic just outside Nanaimo (UPDATED)

A two-vehicle collision has caused lane closures on the Trans-Canada Highway. 

At around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th, a collision occurred between an SUV and motorcycle on the highway near the intersection of Nanaimo River Road. 

Police say the motorcyclist, an adult man, was seriously injured when his southbound motorcycle rear-ended the southbound SUV.

The motorcyclist has since been airlifted and the driver of the other vehicle, also an adult man, was not injured.

The Trans-Canada Highway was fully reopened just before 2 p.m.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, who has dashcam footage of the incident or who saw the events leading up to it, to please contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
