Visitors heading to the Butchart Gardens this weekend will still be able to enjoy live music, but the attraction’s signature Saturday night fireworks show has been cancelled.
The Butchart Gardens announced Wednesday that it will not hold its scheduled fireworks display on Saturday, August 15th due to the provincial state of emergency.
The Temps will still take the Concert Lawn stage at 7:30 p.m., performing a mix of classic hits and modern rock.
With no fireworks taking place, Butchart Gardens said 12-month passes will be honoured throughout the day. Pass holders are typically subject to additional admission restrictions on fireworks Saturdays.
The cancelled show had been scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m. that night.
BC declared a state of provincial emergency on Saturday, August 8th due to regional wildfires following the rapid growth of the Bald Range wildfire in the South Okanagan.
The fast-moving fire pushed into the Summerland area and led to a large-scale evacuation, while homes and other properties were lost.
The state of emergency gives provincial officials access to additional tools and resources to support wildfire response efforts and affected communities.
The Butchart Gardens’ approximately 30-minute fireworks shows feature aerial and ground displays choreographed to music. They are held under permit following weekly consultations with the Central Saanich Fire Department and can be cancelled because of extreme weather or unsafe conditions.
As of Wednesday, additional fireworks shows remain scheduled for August 22nd, August 29th and September 5th.
