Bear attack prompts closure of Stoney Hill Regional Park near Duncan

A regional park near Duncan has been temporarily closed following a reported bear attack Friday morning.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) announced the closure of Stoney Hill Regional Park, located east of Duncan, in an online notice posted shortly before noon on August 14th.

According to the CVRD, the park was closed at the request of the BC Conservation Officer Service and RCMP due to public safety concerns.

Conservation officers, RCMP members and CVRD Parks staff are responding to the incident and assessing the surrounding area.

Officials have not released any information about possible injuries or the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The park will remain closed until authorities determine it is safe to reopen. Residents and visitors are being asked to stay away from the area while the investigation continues.
