Two years after the closure of their storefront and transition to e-commerce, Baggins Shoes has announced they will be permanently shutting down operations sometime before the end of the year.
Baggins has been in business for 57 years in Victoria, as the business was established in 1969, but because of mounting pressures, they will soon close their doors for good.
Founder and owner of Baggins Glen Lynch called the decison to shut down bittersweet, and says that the closure is happening due to an increasingly challenging landscape for retail businesses and economic circumstances.
The company added that they are grateful to all who have shopped for new shoes with them over the years.
“A big thanks to our loyal Victorians and all the wonderful staff who’ve made this business great and kept me out of trouble over the years.” added Tara Savrtka, owner and director of Baggins.
“It’s been an honour seeing you and generations of your families grow, we’ve loved being a part of your back-to-school routine, a must-see on your vacations or a stop on your walk home.”
Before their doors close for good, Baggins is hoping to go out with a bang by hosting a series of closing sales at their 685 Wilson Street warehouse.
Their warehouse sales will be taking place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, August 31st, Wednesday, September 2nd, Friday, September 4th, Saturday, September 5th and finally, Monday, September 7th between 10am and 2pm.
This presents a unique opportunity to stock up on Vans, Doc Martens and Converse shoes, as well as Hershel products and Stance socks before their time is up.
While Baggins says their closure will be coming sometime before 2027, an exact date has not been provided for their final day of business.
