Drivers travelling through Central Saanich should plan for overnight detours next week as construction continues on the long-running Keating Cross Road overpass project.
The BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit says the intersection of Keating Cross Road and Central Saanich Road will be fully closed overnight on Monday, July 6th, and Tuesday, July 7th, while crews complete intersection base repairs and paving.
The closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night.
The province says a third night of work will also be required, tentatively scheduled for July 8th or 9th. Unlike the first two nights, that work is expected to involve single-lane alternating traffic rather than a full closure, if required.
Emergency vehicles will continue to have access through the area at all times. During the full overnight closures, all other traffic will be restricted.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes where possible and follow designated trucking routes if travelling through the area during the closures.
The ministry says the overnight shutdowns are necessary so crews can safely and efficiently complete paving work at the busy intersection.
Drivers travelling through the construction zone are reminded to obey posted speed limits, watch for signage and use extra caution.
The work is part of the ongoing Highway 17/Keating Cross Road overpass project, which is in its final stages and is designed to improve safety and reduce congestion by replacing the former northbound left turn across the Pat Bay Highway.
Remaining finishing work and periodic traffic impacts are expected as the project moves toward completion.
