The City of Victoria has issued an advisory warning of major traffic delays, along with some minor delays this week, as road construction continues on Cook Street.
Between Monday, July 27th and Friday, July 27th, crews will be working on the traffic signal lights at the intersection of Cook and Finlayson Streets.
This will cause some bike and traffic lane closures and construction noise in the area.
The City also noted that major delays are expected at Cook and Finlayson on Tuesday, July 28th, as the traffic lights will be temporarily shut down. During the shut down, the intersection will be controlled by flaggers.
Between Monday, July 27th and Friday, August 7th, from Hillside Avenue to Summit Avenue, motorists can expect some lane closures as crews will be pouring concrete for bike lane medians.
On Thursday, July 30th and Friday, July 31st, there may be delays and sidewalk closures at three intersections as crews pour concrete for sidewalk panels.
The impacted intersections will be Quadra Street and Kings Road, Quadra Street and Hillside Avenue and Cook Street and Hillside Avenue.
The next two weeks will also see electrical work taking place at numerous sites along the Cook Street corridor. This may cause some additional lane closures, pedestrian detours and intermittent crosswalk closures.
The work being completed is a part of a City project to make improvements along Cook Street, from Bay Street to Maplewood Road.
The upgrades include road paving and maintenance, protected bike lanes, accessibility improvements, intersection safety upgrades and three new crosswalks.
The work will ultimately cause a permanent reduction in parking spaces, according to the City.
Work is slated to be completed this fall.
