Missing swimmer prompts search-and-rescue response near Port Alberni

A missing swimmer near Port Alberni has prompted a wide-scale search-and-rescue effort.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5th, Port Alberni RCMP received a report of a missing swimmer at Stamp River Provincial Park. 

Police say a female swimmer was reported to have been swept away by the current. 

Emergency services and police conducted a search for the swimmer, but as of this publication, the woman has not yet been located.

On Monday, July 6th, Port Alberni RCMP, Alberni Valley Rescue Squad and Arrowsmith Search and Rescue attended Stamp River Provincial Park to search for the missing swimmer.

Police say that while the provincial park remains open to the public, the section of trail nearest the falls is currently closed to allow search crews to conduct their operations safely and effectively.

The identity of the missing swimmer has not been disclosed at this time.
