Residents can now explore the first section of what will eventually become a 47-acre waterfront park network at The Beachlands in Colwood.

The first phase of the massive project officially opened to the public on Saturday, June 13th, marking a major milestone for the 134-acre oceanfront community currently under development along Colwood’s shoreline.

According to project partners Seacliff Properties and Reliance Properties, the newly opened park is the first portion of a planned 47-acre network of public parks and open spaces that will ultimately make up roughly 35% of the overall development site.

The opening comes as The Beachlands surpasses $150 million in infrastructure investment since construction began in 2024.

Developers say significant work has already been completed across the site, including more than 1.8 kilometres of roads, sidewalks, bike lanes and underground utilities.

Once complete, the 47-acre park network is expected to increase Colwood’s existing park system by approximately 20%. The City says it represents the largest percentage of land ever dedicated to parks by a private development in Colwood’s history.

“The handover of the first public park is an important milestone in our partnership with the City of Colwood and reflects our shared goal of creating an exceptional waterfront community for residents and visitors alike,” said Georgia Desjardins, Vice President of Development for Seacliff Properties.

Construction on the next phase of park improvements is expected to begin later this summer. Plans include an additional 12 acres of park space, the Bluff Lookout and the Beachlands Amphitheatre.

The development’s first residential neighbourhood, known as The Bluffs, includes two six-storey condominium buildings and 16 townhomes that are scheduled for completion in 2027.

Developers say planning for future phases of The Beachlands continues as work progresses on one of the largest master-planned communities currently under construction on southern Vancouver Island.

The Beachlands development will include up to 2,850 homes, commercial and retail space, community gathering areas and a future hotel.
