The Victoria Conservatory of Music will come alive this summer with a series of performances from talented musicians taking part in some of the most intensive music courses in the country.
We’ll also be giving away free tickets to one of these concerts, so be sure to read to the end of the article for details on how to enter.
Founded in 1964, the Victoria Conservatory of Music is the largest music school in Western Canada.
Known for its progressive learning approaches and a deep commitment to community, the organization’s summer concerts are a breathtaking showcase of the musical talent and traditions we have right here in our city.
Featuring faculty artists, emerging young musicians, and program participants from across Canada and beyond, these concerts are an opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful musical performances Victoria has to offer.
“The Victoria Conservatory is opening its doors this summer to aspiring musicians, young creators, and lifelong learners with a diverse lineup of music programs and camps for all ages,” said Tricia Baldwin, Dean at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
“From classical and cabaret to music therapy and Art Safari, these programs offer inspiring opportunities to learn, create, and connect at our downtown Victoria and Langford campuses.”
The first concert in the series will take place on Tuesday, July 14th, and promises an evening of world-class Baroque music.
A Musical Banquet – Baroque Summer Intensive Faculty Concert features members of Victoria Baroque, the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, and early music specialists from across North America.
The concert will feature favourites by Bach and Handel, alongside lesser-known gems from the Baroque repertoire.
Organizers say the concert is set to be an uplifting summertime celebration of historically inspired performance.
Tickets for this show are $20 plus fees and can be purchased here.
The second performance in the series will be put on by the faculty of the Victoria Conservatory of Music Choral Summer Intensive with a performance celebrating a cross-section of Canadian choral repertoire.
They’ll draw on contemporary composition and folk traditions to reflect the depth and diversity of Canada’s choral voice.
The Choral Summer Intensive Final Performance will take place on Wednesday, August 22nd.
The show is prepared over an intensive week of rehearsal and will showcase the artistry and commitment of the singers while painting a compelling portrait of modern Canadian choral music.
Tickets for this show are $15 plus fees and can be purchased here.
Both of these concerts will take place inside Victoria’s iconic Alix Goolden Performance Hall.
For more information on these concerts and other by-donation concerts happening throughout the summer, visit the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s website here.
