Shawnigan Lake RCMP have arrested and charged a 17-year-old suspect in connection to an alleged sexual assault that took place in 2024.
On July 23rd, 2024, just after 9 p.m., Shawnigan Lake RCMP responded to the area of Carlton Drive.
An elderly woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man who had entered her home.
Patrol officers and the police dog service attended the scene initially, but could not track the suspect.
Using forensic evidence, police eventually identified the suspect.

On June 1st, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges against the suspect for breaking and entering, committing an indictable offence, sexual assault and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Police say the suspect’s whereabouts were unknown and therefore a warrant for his arrest was issued.
The suspect was located and arrested on June 3rd, 2026, and will remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
“The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits us from naming the suspect,” added Bérubé.
“Given the matter is now before the court, we will not be providing further details about this investigation.”
