Langford shoppers will soon have a new option for affordable groceries!
FreshCo is set to officially open its doors at Westshore Town Centre on Thursday, June 18th at 8 a.m., marking the discount grocery chain’s first-ever location on Vancouver Island.
The new store occupies a 38,000-square-foot retail space in the shopping centre, taking over the former Fairway Market location.
Fairway Market closed in July 2025 after serving the community for 36 years.
The opening brings a major new grocery retailer to the rapidly growing West Shore and adds another option for residents looking for lower-priced groceries.
FreshCo is a discount banner owned by Sobeys Inc., the same parent company behind Thrifty Foods. The chain operates more than 150 stores across Canada and is known for its focus on value, fresh produce, meat departments and multicultural food offerings.
The Langford location was first announced last August with construction crews spending the past several months transforming the former Fairway Market space into a modern FreshCo store.
When the project was announced, Tony McGrath, Vice President of Operations, Discount at Sobeys Inc., said the store represented an important step in the company’s continued growth across Western Canada.
“This new store underscores our commitment to the community and to lowering food prices for Canadians,” said McGrath.
“At FreshCo, we stand for value, freshness, and the diverse communities we serve.”
Customers can expect FreshCo’s regular lineup of grocery products, including fresh produce, meat, bakery items and international foods. The chain also offers a price-match program, allowing shoppers to match advertised prices from select local grocery competitors.

The opening comes as the West Shore continues to experience significant population growth, increasing demand for grocery options and retail services in the region.
FreshCo officially opens at 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 18th.
