A convicted murderer is the subject of an extensive police search after escaping from William Head Institution in Metchosin on Sunday.

According to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), staff at the minimum-security federal institution discovered during the noon inmate count on June 28th that 69-year-old Ernest Egon Jensen was not accounted for.

West Shore RCMP says it was notified by the institution at approximately 12:49 p.m. today.

An arrest warrant has since been issued for Jensen, who is wanted for being unlawfully at large.

Police immediately responded to the area and launched an extensive search.

Residents can expect a heavy police presence around William Head Institution as officers continue searching outside the facility while institutional staff conduct a comprehensive search of the prison grounds.

West Shore RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services have also been deployed to assist in the search.

Jensen is described as a 69-year-old Caucasian man with a heavy build, standing 5’8” tall.

He is bald, has brown eyes, a fair complexion, a scar on his forehead and is missing three fingers on his left hand.

He has been serving a life sentence for second-degree murder since March 20th, 1991.

According to Correctional Service Canada, he has also previously served sentences for break and enter and trespassing.

Police say Jensen is considered dangerous and should not be approached under any circumstances.

Anyone who sees Jensen is urged to call 911 immediately.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts that does not require an emergency response is asked to contact the West Shore RCMP at (250) 474-2264.

Why don't we just run a shuttle bus for these criminals? There seems to be a demand.

What is this nonsense ?
We've already had an innocent murdered by wayward guests of Club Fed''
Move these inmates and laughable institutions next door to the defense lawyers and their families.
