Hasn’t the week just flown by, Victoria?

The weekend is coming up quickly—get the fun started early and head to one of these events happening around town!

Whether you want to hit the first night of AfriCa Fest or continue with the Ocean Week festivities, you’ll want to take a look at these events happening around town.

Here are 5 things to do in and around Victoria this Thursday, June 4th:

AfriCa Fest kick-off at Ship Point

It’s the first day of AfriCa Fest!

AfriCa Fest is celebrating its 13th year of recognizing African culture and heritage in Victoria. The festivities will be taking place all weekend from Thursday, June 4th to Sunday, June 7th.

Thursday’s show will feature David Lamine, with a performance celebrating Kizomba Na Rua.

Head down and dance the night away while the sun goes down at the beautiful Ship Point!

The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend!

Dungeon Crawler Carl Book Club at Indigo Mayfair

Head to Indigo Mayfair to participate in a bookclub featuring Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman!

Dungeon Crawler Carl has taken the world by storm. Take a deep dive with other fans!

Join in the book club to discuss the book, laugh, debate and ultimately be entertained while digging into this read!

SUMAC, Total Isolation and Echthros at The Other Guise Studios


SUMAC is the powerhouse trio of Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom,Mamiffer), Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) and Brian Cook (Russian Circles, These Arms Are Snakes).

SUMAC invests in the recursive exercises of chaos and control, and the results are a testament to the tour-honed collective intuition and technical skills of these veteran players.

BC band Total Isolation and Calgary’s Echthros will be supporting.

Mixed Media Art Night: World Ocean Week Edition with Ecologyst

Join Ecologyst for a creative evening of art, community and ocean-inspired reflection to celebrate World Ocean Week!

Ecologyst and Surfrider Vancouver Island will be celebrating World Ocean Week by creating handmade postcards using fabric scraps and secondhand materials and through collage, drawing and painting.

The hope is that attendees can explore how creativity and reuse can inspire more thoughtful relationships with the things we consume and the ecosystems we impact.

No artistic experience is necessary and all materials will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring your own materials, magazines, textiles or creative supplies.

This is a by-donation event, with contributions accepted at the door. Funds raised will support Surfrider South Vancouver Island and their work protecting our coastlines.

Capacity is limited to 12 participants—RSVP early, as space is limited! You can RSVP here.
