Victoria’s Humboldt Bar is once again being recognized as one of the best in the country in 2026.
The cocktail bar was named in the top 50 bars in Canada, coming in at number 34 on the list.
The list, created by Canada’s 100 Best, praises Humboldt’s dedication to teaching history through cocktails.
“A sumptuous corner banquette is the perfect perch for your history lesson on Alexander von Humboldt,” the website raves.
“The 19th-century naturalist and explorer is the inspiration behind almost everything (drinks, artwork, sharing plates) in this small and wonderfully romantic bar led by Brant Porter. Cocktails trace von Humboldt’s life through flavour profiles spanning from bright and fresh to bold and spicy.”
Locals know the bar as an intimate and sophisticated venue tucked away, appropriately, on Humboldt Street.
Located on the ground floor of the DoubleTree hotel, sharing a building and across the hallway from Bartholomew’s pub, it’s not hard to miss this spot if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
This only adds to the ambiance of the bar, which prides itself on an intimate setting with suave cocktails with world-class mixologists at the helm.
The bar is no stranger to recognition, or even this list. It was ranked the number 22 best bar in Canada last year by the organization, and number 36 the year before. It also landed in the 53 spot among the top 100 best bars across North America last month, according to The World’s 50 Best.
This year, the list expanded to include more range.
Coming in at the number one spot this year was The Cloakroom in Montreal, which has been getting international recognition for creating cocktails on the spot that are personalized to the client.
Humboldt was the only Victoria bar to make the list this year, however in previous years establishments like Citrus & Cane and Clive’s Cocktail Lounge have been recognized.
