The highly-anticipated RunSport Victoria Track Classic is set to return on Friday, June 12th at Centennial Stadium in Victoria.
This meet is the pinnacle of high-level competition in Victoria, featuring events such as the men’s 100 metres, women’s 100-metre hurdles along with men’s and women’s 400, 800, and 1500 metre distances, javelin, pole vault and women’s discus.
This year, event organizers say the meet will focus on competitive, fast racing, with pacers in key events to help athletes achieve their personal bests and deliver strong performances.
The first RunSport Victoria Track Classic was launched in 1988 and has become a staple event for athletes in the region. With many Olympic, Paralympic, and future international stars making early-career appearances at the meet, it has become a stepping stone toward a successful future for athletes.
Local Victoria athletes like Debbie Scott, Dave Campbell, and Angela Chalmers were all regular runners in this event in the early stages of their careers, which led them on to international success in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games in 1994.
Olympic and World Champion hammer thrower Ethan Katzburg also competed at the meet back in 2022.
Athlete registration for the RunSport Victoria Track Classic is now open! Registration fees start at $10 per registrant for the middle and high school 100 metre and 800 metre events, and $20 for other athletes. The deadline is set for June 8th. Athletes can register here now!
If you’ve got a young one who wants to try out some friendly competition, this year’s meet will also feature the RunSport Victoria Track Classic Race Around the Track for children aged five to 10 years old.
This event, presented by Andrew Sheret Ltd and happening right before the main event, is an obstacle course race that will introduce kids to the FUNdamentals of track and field through some game-based challenges and friendly competition.
Registration for the little ones is free!
Those not planning to compete can still participate by buying a ticket to cheer on the athletes.
