Oceanside RCMP are searching for witnesses after a cyclist sustained multiple injuries, including several broken ribs, from a hit-and-run collision in Qualicum Beach.

On Monday, May 17th, on the 1100 block of Meadowood Way in Qualicum Beach, a 63-year-old woman was hit by a dirt bike while riding her bicycle.

RCMP say the event started with the woman cycling up a hill while a group of dirt bikers went around her.

One of the dirt bikers reportedly signalled to the group to slow down; however, while the group passed, one of them collided with the woman.

Police say the group rode away, leaving the cyclist in the ditch where she fell.

Witnesses happened upon the crash and called 911, and the cyclist was then transported to hospital by ambulance.

Unfortunately, no description of the dirt bikers is currently available.

“The dirt bike rider knew they struck the cyclist as the male rider said to the cyclist before fleeing that he didn’t mean to do it,” said Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.

Police are now asking the dirt bike rider to come forward.

Anyone who has any information about the dirt bike rider or dash cam video, contact Oceanside RCMP at (250) 248-6111.
