Oak Bay Police are warning local businesses to remain vigilant after several women-run businesses reportedly received disturbing phone calls over the past several days.
According to police, officers were called to a business in the 2800-block of Foul Bay Road on April 28th at around 2:11 p.m. after staff reported receiving multiple unwanted calls from an unidentified person.
Police say the caller appeared to have a male voice and allegedly spoke in a hushed or whispering tone while making inappropriate comments to staff members.
Officers attended the business, spoke with employees and provided safety advice.
In a media statement, Oak Bay Police said they are aware of similar incidents involving businesses in Oak Bay and other jurisdictions.
“Repeated unwanted communications may constitute criminal harassment and are taken seriously by police,” the department said.
Police are encouraging business owners and staff to document incidents, contact their phone provider about call tracing options and report concerning behaviour promptly.
Oak Bay Police added that anyone who feels their personal safety is at risk should contact police immediately.
Anyone with information related to the incidents is asked to contact Oak Bay Police at (250) 592-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
