West Shore RCMP have confirmed the fatality of an 82-year-old cyclist following a vehicular collision this week.

On Monday, May 11th, at around 12:54 p.m., officers were called to the scene of the collision at  the intersection of Leigh Road and Mantle Heights in Langford.

The collision involved a Sterling dump truck and the elderly male cyclist.

West Shore RCMP say the first responder was an officer in the area who was flagged down by several bystanders that were providing first aid to the cyclist.

BC Emergency Health Services attended the scene and, despite their best efforts, the cyclist succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators have determined the collision occurred while the dump truck was making a right-hand turn at the intersection.

After examining the scene and speaking with several witnesses, they have determined that this collision was not criminal in nature.

West Shore RCMP say they extend their condolences to the cyclist’s family and friends during this difficult time.
