The weekend is finally here, Victoria!

There are some much-anticipated events coming up over the weekend, but there’s plenty going on Friday too!

Whether you want to check out a new venue for some local jazz, laugh out loud with some comedy or finally figure out iNaturalist and maximize your bird-watching experience, there’s plenty happening for everyone.

Here are 5 things happening in around around Victoria this Friday, April 24th to get the party started heading into the weekend:

OK, DOPE Game Show at the Mint

OK, DOPE is back with OK, DOPE Game Show: An Improv Game Show Show!

Inspired by Dropout TVs popular game show formats, OK, DOPE Game Show combines the fun of improv with the competitiveness of a game show.

Watch as 3 comedians go head to head as host Bo Jagger Essery puts their improv skills to the test!

Through various questions, prompts, and setups the contestants will have their improv skills pushed to the limit.

Two will lose, one will win and leave a champion with Victoria’s ultimate improv glory!

Band of the Month Showcase at Studio 919

Head down to Studio 919 and see their band of the month featuring Blush.

This event is in partnership between Studio 919 and The Zone @ 91-3.

Inspired by a wide variety of shoegaze, 90s rock, and folk music, Blush. is a coastal Canadian alt-indie rock band built on crunchy textures, haunting electronics and atmospheric melodies.

Their sophomore EP In the Grey arrives in Spring 2026, capturing the band at their loudest and most restrained.

Blush. was recently featured on our New Music Monday segment, which you can read here. This is an up-and-coming local band that you definitely don’t want to miss.

H ii Regions and Houle/Schulz/Houle at The Orange Light 

Who doesn’t love a little bit of underground jazz?

The Montreal based trio, H ii Regions was formed in 2020.

Featuring the generous tenor saxophonist Aaron Leaney weaving intricate melodies and free-form explorations with bassist Nicolas Caloia laying down hypnotic unpredictable rhythms while drummer Jahsun draws from the afro-diasporic laws of space and time.

The new trio Houle/Schulz/Houle unites three acclaimed improvisers from two continents and transcends borders.

The unique instrumentation of François Houle on basset clarinet, Anthony Schulz on accordion and Viviane Houle on voice offers an extraordinary palette of sonic possibilities.

iNaturalist Training Session at Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary

Head to the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary for an iNaturalist training session!

Abby Hyde will be leading a special training session on iNaturalist during the Victoria City Nature Challenge.

Learn how to use it to identify flora and fauna, contributing to local data collection and conservation efforts.

This hands-on session will guide you through recording observations, making species identifications, and understanding how your contributions support scientific research—no experience needed, just the app on your phone!

This event is free and everyone is welcome.
