Woman in her late 60s dragged by pickup truck in Nanaimo as police seek witnesses

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after a woman was struck and dragged a short distance by a pickup truck Tuesday evening.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the incident happened around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th, in the 6600 block of Applecross Road.

Police arrived to find the woman receiving treatment from paramedics and members of Nanaimo Fire Rescue. She was later transported to hospital for further medical care.

Her current condition has not been released.

Investigators say the woman, who is in her late 60s, became trapped underneath a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and was dragged a short distance at low speed.

The driver, also described as a man in his late 60s, stopped and called 911.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Statements were collected from witnesses, and the vehicle involved has been seized for further examination.

No surveillance video of the incident has been located.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine what led up to the collision.
