At least two Vancouver Island athletes will be representing Team Canada on the world stage over the next two weeks after being named to the roster for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
The Canadian Olympic Committee recently announced a 207-athlete roster, and among those heading to Italy are Dillan Glennie of the Comox Valley and Amelia Wells of Saanich.
The Games begin on February 4th, and run through February 22nd, bringing together the top winter athletes from around the world.
Dillan Glennie will compete in freestyle skiing halfpipe, one of the most visually striking and technically demanding events on the Olympic program.
Glennie has strong ties to the Comox Valley, where she has trained and developed her skills over the years. Known for her powerful amplitude and consistency in the pipe, she has spent multiple seasons competing on the World Cup circuit and against the sport’s elite.
Milano Cortina will mark Glennie’s Olympic debut, a major milestone in a career built on years of progression, travel, and high-level competition. She will face a deep international field, but arrives in Italy as one of Canada’s promising halfpipe athletes.
Also making the journey to Italy is Amelia Wells, a cross-country skier from Saanich who has steadily climbed the national ranks.
Wells secured her place on the Olympic team through strong performances at national trials and international events. Competing in one of the most physically demanding sports at the Games, she will take on long-distance and endurance-based races that test both strength and strategy.
Her selection continues Vancouver Island’s growing presence in high-performance winter sport and highlights the region’s contribution to Canada’s Nordic skiing program.
The 2026 Winter Olympics will be hosted across Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, with events spread throughout northern Italy. The Games feature 14 winter sports, including alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, Nordic events, skating, and sliding sports.
Canada’s team includes a mix of Olympic veterans and first-time competitors, with Glennie and Wells among those making their Olympic debuts.
For Vancouver Island sports fans, it adds an extra layer of excitement to watch local athletes compete on one of sport’s biggest stages.
The opening ceremones will take place on Friday, February 4th.
