A pair of drivers are facing hefty consequences after being caught travelling at more than double the posted speed limit in the West Shore area this week.

Two drivers were cited for excessive speeding in Metchosin on Tuesday night, with both vehicles impounded for seven days, according to West Shore RCMP.

Police say the first driver was clocked travelling approximately 100 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone along Metchosin Road near Happy Valley Road.

The second driver was stopped nearby after being recorded travelling about 80 km/h in a 30 km/h zone near the intersection of Metchosin Road and Pelican Drive.

In both cases, the drivers were issued $483 tickets and had their vehicles impounded under BC’s excessive speeding provisions.

Police are reminding drivers that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of serious collisions and injuries, particularly on local roads with lower speed limits.
