Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help following an overnight vandalism incident that left a vehicle badly damaged and several community mailboxes torn from the ground.
Police say the damage occurred sometime between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25th, in the 900 block of Old Victoria Road.
Officers attended the area after receiving reports of vandalism and spoke with the owner of a newer model Tesla that had been parked along the roadway. The vehicle was found with deep gashes carved into the front hood and side panels, along with a smashed windshield.
Just several feet away, several Canada Post community mailboxes were discovered ripped from their cement base.
At this stage, investigators say it is not yet known whether the two incidents are connected. Canada Post has been notified and will coordinate repairs to the damaged mailboxes.
Police conducted foot patrols in the largely undeveloped area but have not identified any suspects.
Investigators are exploring all possibilities, including whether the Tesla may have been intentionally targeted.
“Police are requesting that any motorists who were driving past the 900 block of Old Victoria Road, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Wednesday February 25, 2026, to please review their dashcam footage for anything suspicious in nature,” said R/Cst. O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at (250) 754-2345.
