Both of Victoria’s hospitals have been ranked among the top 25 hospitals in Canada, according to Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026 list.

With more than 216,000 hospitals worldwide, Newsweek compiled the annual ranking to highlight top-performing medical institutions for people seeking high-quality care around the globe.

Among Canadian hospitals, Royal Jubilee Hospital placed 20th overall with a score of 72.88%, while Victoria General Hospital followed closely at number 25, earning a score of 72.25%.

The rankings and scores were based on four key data sources: recommendations from medical experts, hospital quality metrics, existing patient experience data, and Statista’s Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Implementation Survey (PROMS).

PROMS are standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients about their well-being and quality of life following care.

Canada’s top-ranked hospital was University Health Network – Toronto General Hospital, which earned a score of 90.02% and received three PROMS ribbons.

Hospitals are awarded PROMS ribbons based on how deeply patient-reported outcomes are integrated into their care systems.

Receiving three PROMS ribbons indicates that patient feedback is collected consistently, outcomes matter as much as procedures, and patient data is actively used to improve treatment and overall patient experience.
