Share

Beginning today,  Friday, January 16th, the City of Victoria will commence road construction on the stretch of Blanshard Street between Caledonia Avenue and Kings Road.

With improvements now finished along the southern stretch of Blanshard, the coming road improvements will continue the work that started in July 2024.

These street upgrades include general road maintenance expansion of the all ages and abilities bike lane network and improves safety for pedestrians as well as mobility device users.

“This street is one of the highest collision corridors in the city, and the improvements will help move Victoria towards its goal of eliminating traffic-related deaths and serious injuries,” said the City in a media release.

“Transportation improvements along major arterial streets will complement other, more localized upgrades across the City.”

According to the City, residents and businesses along the impacted section of Blanshard will receive direct notices before any interruptions to utility services or building access.

Between January 16th and 25th, the construction will begin along Blanshard Street between Pembroke Street and Caledonia Avenue.

During this timeframe, crews will be excavating and preparing the road for construction and installation of signal light bases will begin.

Motorists can expect the construction to impact traffic in both directions with some lane closures and general disruptions.

The entirety of this project along the north stretch of Blanshard is scheduled to be completed this summer.
