A Greek mythology-inspired, contemporary coming-of-age musical is coming to the Canadian College of Performing Arts this winter.
Running from January 30th to February 7th, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is presented by the Canadian Heritage Art Society (CHAS) and Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA).
The production is an adaptation of the first book in Rick Riordan’s beloved Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.
Comedic, action-packed, and family-friendly, the musical follows Percy Jackson, a teenage boy whose world is flipped upside down when he discovers that he must go on a quest to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt and return it to prevent a war between the gods.
Along the way, Percy battles monsters, forges friendships, and begins to understand who he truly is.
Directed and choreographed by Kaylee Harwood with music directed by CCPA alumnus Brad L’Écuyer, the production is described as a show audiences of all ages can enjoy.
“Whether you’re familiar with the Percy Jackson series or discovering this world for the first time, there’s something here for everyone,” said Harwood.
“It’s a story best experienced together—so bring your whole family and dive in.”
The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical originally debuted off-Broadway in 2014, followed by a 16-week Broadway run in 2019. Since then, the show has been performed across the world, delighting fans of the books and musical theatre alike.
