Nanaimo high school initiates ‘hold and secure’ protocol due to nearby police incident

Share

Nanaimo and District Secondary school was placed under ‘hold and secure’ protocol, or lockdown, due to a nearby police incident.

At around 9:15 a.m. on Monday January 5th, police contacted the school’s administration, recommending that a hold and secure be activated to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Nanaimo RCMP dealt with the incident and by 10:15 a.m., the situation had been deemed resolved and the hold and secure was lifted.

Though police did not reveal the nature of the incident, they have confirmed that the matter is still under investigation.

In 2025, the Nanaimo and District Secondary was placed under hold and secure at least twice, with additional unspecified incidents prompting increased police presence on multiple other occasions.
