Major downtown Victoria roadway closed after pedestrian struck

A pedestrian has been seriously injured following a crash at a downtown Victoria intersection, prompting the closure of a major roadway in and out of the city Friday.

According to VicPD, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Douglas Street and Caledonia Avenue.

Police are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

BC Emergency Health Services says it was called to the scene at 11:32 a.m. Janury 9th and dispatched two ambulances including one with primary care paramedics and another with advanced care paramedics.

One patient was transported to hospital in critical condition.

“BCEHS received a call at 11:32 a.m. on January 9,2026, about a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian at Douglas St and Chatham St in Victoria. One ambulance with primary care paramedics and an ambulance with advanced care paramedics attended the scene,” said Brian Twaites, BCEHS Paramedic Public Information Officer.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical care to one patient who was transported to hospital in critical condition.”

The collision has forced the closure of a key route used by drivers travelling into and out of downtown Victoria, causing traffic disruptions in the area.

VicPD has not released further details about Friday’s crash and says the investigation remains ongoing.
