Scammers in Sidney prompt warnings from police for all of Greater Victoria

Share

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP has issued a warning to the public regarding a scam currently circulating throughout Greater Victoria.

Because of this, police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

According to police, officers encountered this scam in Sidney on December 9th, when officers responded to a report involving a South Asian couple.

The couple allegedly approached a victim at a local gas station, claiming they required money to return home.

Police say the suspects provided the victim with several pieces of what appeared to be gold jewelry in exchange for financial assistance. However, these items were later determined to be fake.

The couple reportedly left the area in a dark SUV.

According to police, similar incidents have been reported across Greater Victoria in late November and early December, which may be connected.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are reminding the public to exercise caution when approached by individuals seeking money, and to report any suspicious activity to their local police.
