Police increase presence at three Nanaimo high schools following threat

Share

Several Nanaimo schools will see added police patrols to start the week following an “unspecified” threat made against them.

In a media release, Nanaimo RCMP said they will have a heightened presence at three high schools on Monday after an unspecified threat was directed at Dover Bay Secondary, Wellington Secondary, and Nanaimo District Secondary.

Police say the extra patrols are being deployed out of an abundance of caution. All three schools will remain open to the public, and classes are expected to run on a normal schedule.

School Liaison Officers will be stationed at the affected schools throughout the day.

RCMP are encouraging students, staff, and parents to approach officers if they have concerns or need support.

The nature of the threat has not been released, but police say the increased visibility is intended to reassure the school community while the matter is addressed.
