This holiday season, PETA, an international animal rights organization, will have volunteers handing out free meat-free roasts to vegans, vegetarians or anyone who just wants to reduce their meat consumption.
These free roasts will be handed out in Victoria’s Cook Street Village, on the corner of Cook and Oxford Streets, next to the Root Cellar.
“Every person who leaves thinking, feeling animals off their holiday menus and opts for delicious vegan roasts is sure to make Santa’s ‘nice list,” said Heather Carlson, PETA Vice President.
“During the holidays and all year-round, PETA reminds everyone that peace on earth is possible if we choose kindness by going vegan.”
PETA says that pigs are able to recognize their own name and show empathy for other pigs who are distressed.
Furthermore, they say turkeys typically spend their days caring for their young and roosting in trees if left alone in the wild.
According to PETA, the ways these animals die in a butchering process is cruel and painful. They added that for every individual that goes vegan, approximately 200 animals are spared per year.
Regardless of whether you’re vegan or not, you can stop by to learn more or pick up a free meat-free roast, PETA will be in Cook Street Village on Sunday, December 7th, handing them out beginning at 12:30 p.m.
