Our Place Society hosting two Christmas meals for connection and community

Downtown Victoria’s Our Place Society is hosting their annual Christmas meal for the unhoused and financially burdened community this week.

According to the organization, Christmas can spark both joy and sorrow in the hearts of those who are struggling with poverty, addiction and mental health issues.

Many are joyous as they remember happier times, but sorrow comes from the struggles of survival and heartbreak.

For these reasons, Our Place will be holding their annual Christmas meal for the community on Wednesday, December 17th, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

At this meal, the organization offers a chance for any and all who need the embrace of family to enjoy a traditional Christmas meal served with warmth, dignity and community.

“Christmas can be tough, for a variety of reasons, but we want everyone to enjoy the comforts of a family meal,” says Julian Daly, Our Place CEO.

“We know it can be difficult to find that connection for so many of those who access our services, but this meal, sponsored by our donors, is a small token of festive goodwill and cheer.”

Volunteers who will be helping dole out turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy will include local political and media figures.

Our Place added that thanks to Rogers’ Chocolates, those in attendance will also enjoy a special Christmas treat for dessert.

“It’s more than a meal,” continued Daly.

“It’s an opportunity for fellowship and a way for people to see they don’t have to be alone. We want everyone to know they are worthy of love and hope.”

In addition to Our Place’s Christmas meal, local businessman Gordy Dodd will be hosting a second Christmas meal at Our Place on Friday, December 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Throughout the year, Our Place Society provides over 500,000 meals, 500 housing units and shelter spaces, long-term addiction recovery services and much more.
