Over the weekend, OneBC made the decision to remove Dallas Brodie as their leader due to alleged breaches of security and trust.
According to OneBC, there have been multiple recent attempts by Brodie to obtain control of party assets without authorization. These breaches included multiple attempted breaches of security systems, communications software and databases of the party.
Because OneBC is composed of only two MLAs, Brodie and Tara Armstrong, Armstrong was able to provide a vote of no confidence, which removed Brodie as interim leader.
Her removal as OneBC’s leader comes on the heels of a controversy instigated by Brodie that occurred in Victoria, where she organized an event on UVic grounds without permission from the university.
Brodie arrived at UVic prepared to decry the fact that 215+ unmarked graves of Indigenous youth were discovered at Kamloops Indian Residential School.
She was met by over hundreds of protesters and police, who escorted her and the rest of OneBC off campus.
Furthermore, Armstrong says that Brodie has become increasingly unstable, paranoid, erratic and abusive.
“Ms. Brodie has frequently yelled at employees, used abusive language, and severed communications with senior staff and caucus for extended periods of time,” wrote Armstrong in a media release.
“This erratic behaviour culminated in Ms. Brodie terminating senior staff members without prior notice or explanation to caucus, and then attempting to access and copy party assets, communications software, and databases without authorization.”
Brodie reportedly had a major outburst towards OneBC staff members in which she yelled, used abusive language and demanded the termination of multiple employees.
Following the incident, staff members met with Brodie to address concerns regarding her conduct and requested that she refrain from such behaviour in the future.
According to Armstrong, Brodie’s response to this confrontation was to sever communication with all staff and her caucus member for one week’s time.
OneBC says they will be launching an external investigation into the actions of Brodie.
Brodie claimed in a social media post that her staff were working against her and conspiring to censor her and were secretly working with the BC Conservatives.
“To call this unethical would be an understatement, and the exact reason many people give up on politics, and the type of behaviour I got into politics to oppose,” she wrote.
Brodie has now been kicked out of the BC Conservatives for her radical views and has been ousted as OneBC’s leader because of her conduct.
As of this publication, it is unclear whether Brodie will remain a representative of OneBC, or whether she will step down.
