More protesters arrested as old growth activists blockade logging roads in Walbran Forest

Share

More old growth activists have been arrested for erecting blockades that halted logging operations in the Walbran Forest area of Vancouver Island’s Carmanah Valley.

Since late November, RCMP has been conducting raids on an old growth protest blockade as police enforced a BC Supreme Court-ordered injunction.

The court order was to allow Tsawak-qin Forestry Inc. to continue their logging operations in the area and essentially  prohibits anyone from impeding the company from gaining access to the site.

The initial Cougar Camp blockade was dismantled on November 25th, and saw four individuals arrested.

A second round of arrests were made when RCMP discovered another encampment in a different location within the injunction area.

This camp was raided on December 8th, and saw four men arrested.

In the latest RCMP update on the Walbran Forest injunction, on December 11th, police located some individuals perched on top of tree-like structures that were erected in the roadway.

Two more arrests were made in connection to this most recent blockade.

All individuals arrested in connection with the Walbran Forest blockade and Camp Cougar are scheduled to make court appearances in January 2026.

Since November 25th, the RCMP have made 13 arrests.
