Jeremy Caradonna announces plans to seek re-election as Victoria city councillor

Victoria City Councillor Jeremy Caradonna has officially announced that he intends to run for re-election in the 2026 municipal election.

Caradonna is the first of Victoria’s councillors to announce their intention to be re-elected.

“It has been the greatest professional experience of my life to serve Victorians every day and help solve problems on behalf of the community,” said Caradonna in the announcement.

The councillor says he hopes to build on the work he endeavoured in his first term.

Of the work city council has accomplished with Caradonna as a councillor, he says he is most proud of the amount of housing built, the implementation of the Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan, the expansion of bike lanes and the soon-to-come replacement of Crystal Pool.

He is also proud of the City purchasing the Hermann’s building which brought a new music venue to the city, the reconciliation work done with local First Nations, the City’s climate policies and the work he has done as a Capital Regional District Director.

Caradonna’s term as councillor was marred by only one controversial matter in which he accused Councillor Stephen Hammond of lying during discussions on the Crystal Pool Project.

Hammond demanded a public apology, Mayor Marianne Alto agreed his comment was out of line and Caradonna ultimately apologized for calling him a “liar,” though he remained steadfast in his stance that the pool should be built.

This was Caradonna’s first term on city council as he was elected in 2022. He was one of seven brand new councillors, with only Chris Coleman having served before.

His experience for this role lies in having been a tenured professor, a small business owner and a provincial policymaker focused on climate and green building.

“My platform for 2026 is still taking shape, but I can say that my campaign will be focusing on Community Safety, Sustainable Urbanism, Affordable Housing, and Investing in Community Infrastructure,” said Caradonna.

“I am looking forward to working with you in this campaign, and working hard to solve problems and move this city forward.”

The councillor lives in Fernwood with his wife and two daughters, and has lived in Victoria since 2012, when he made the move west from Edmonton.

The next scheduled municipal election in Victoria will take place on Saturday, October 17th, 2026.
