If it wasn’t obvious already, Victoria is in for a very wet day.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Greater Victoria, forecasting 40 to 70 millimetres of rain through today and into this evening as an atmospheric river moves across the south coast.
Forecasters say the heaviest rainfall is expected from Sooke to downtown Victoria, with the system bringing periods of heavy downpours, reduced visibility and water pooling on roads and low-lying areas.
Conditions are expected to ease later tonight.
Drivers are being urged to use caution, as sudden heavy rain can make travel unpredictable.
Officials also warn residents not to attempt driving through flooded roadways, which often appear shallow but can be deeper and more dangerous than expected.

This latest warning follows broader concerns raised earlier today as Vancouver Island faces ongoing flood risk due to saturated ground and recent storm activity.
Emergency officials have been monitoring elevated water levels and increased runoff across multiple regions.
With another significant rainfall event underway, residents are encouraged to keep gutters and drains clear and stay updated on changing conditions.
Environment Canada says the heavy rain should taper off by late evening, though further advisories may be issued if the system intensifies.
