Oak Bay police are investigating after a 98-year-old resident was robbed of a gold necklace earlier this month.
Police say the incident happened on December 21st in the 2000 block of Goldsmith Street.
A woman described as about 5’8″ tall with a heavy build and dressed entirely in black allegedly stole a gold necklace valued at approximately $3,000 from the victim’s neck.
The victim was not physically injured.
Officers from the Oak Bay Police Department and Saanich Police Department searched the surrounding area, but the suspect was not located.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Police say they have been in contact with the victim to ensure support and resources are in place.
Targeting seniors is unacceptable, police said in a statement, adding that officers are actively pursuing leads and reviewing available evidence.
The robbery is one of several recent theft-related incidents reported in Oak Bay.
On December 15th, police received a report that an unknown man entered a business parking lot in the 1200 block of Newport Avenue just before midnight and siphoned gasoline from a vehicle, causing minor damage.
Two days later, on December 17th, a resident reported an attempted gas siphoning from a vehicle parked in the 1400 block of Newport Avenue.
The complainant found pry marks on the vehicle’s gas port and an empty gas can beside the car. Both incidents remain under investigation.
In a separate case, a vehicle was stolen from the 700 block of Mountjoy Avenue in the early morning hours of December 18th.
Police say the suspect was known to the vehicle’s owner. The suspect and the vehicle were located later that afternoon by Victoria Police.
The suspect was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and later released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Oak Bay police are asking anyone with information related to any of the incidents to contact them as investigations continue.
