14 places to get your Christmas tree chipped in and around Victoria

The holidays may be over, but there’s still a festive task left to tackle—saying goodbye to your Christmas tree.

Luckily, communities across Greater Victoria are hosting tree chipping events throughout early January, making it easy to recycle your tree while giving back.

From schools and sports teams to fire departments and local organizations, these by-donation drop-offs help support youth programs, charities, and community initiatives.

Here are 14 places to get your Christmas tree chipped in and around Victoria:

Reynolds Secondary School

Reynolds Secondary School is hosting a Christmas tree chipping event to raise funds for their music programs.

  • Where: 3963 Borden Street, Saanich
  • When: Saturday, January 3th & Sunday, January 4th – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Victoria Minor Hockey Association

The Victoria Minor Hockey Association is collecting Christmas trees on January 3rd to support its youth hockey programs and the Island Kids Cancer Association.

Trees can be dropped off at two locations: Saanich Fusion FC and Houle Electric.

  • Where: Saanich Fusion FC, 4368 Tyndall Avenue & Houle Electric, 4240 Glandford Avenue
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd – 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Colwood Volunteer Firefighters

Donate your Christmas tree to support the Colwood Firefighters Association and community programs on January 3rd and 4th.

  • Where: Colwood Fire Hall, 3215 Metchosin Road
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd & Sunday, January 4th – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cloverdale Elementary School

Come chip your Christmas tree in Cloverdale Elementary School parking lot and support the PAC with a donation!

They will be chipping Christmas trees from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 3rd.

  • Where: Cloverdale Elementary School, 3427 Quadra Street
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Centre Mountain Lellum Band

Support Centre Mountain Middle School’s band with their tree chipping fundraiser on Saturday, January 3rd.

Cash donations only!

  • Where: Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School – Upper Parking Lot, 3090 Constellation Avenue
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

McKenzie Elementary School

Bring your tree on Saturday, January 3rd and Sunday, January 4th and get it chipped by donations in the McKenzie Elementary School back parking lot.

  • Where: McKenzie Elementary School, 4005 Raymond St N
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd & Sunday, January 4th – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Township of Esquimalt 

The festivities of the holidays have come to a close and it is time to take down the decorations—let the Township of Esquimalt help you dispose of your tree!

Bring your Christmas tree on Saturday, January 3rd or Sunday, January 4th and they’ll chip your tree for a donation. All proceeds go towards their Compassionate Resource Warehouse.

  • Where: Archie Browning Sports Centre (back parking lot), 1151 Esquimalt Road
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd & Sunday, January 4th – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Central Saanich Lions Club

Back for another year, the CS Lions Club is hosting their annual Christmas tree chipping by donation! 

The drop-off location on Hovey Road is open for trees for two weeks: January 3rd and 4th and January 10th and 11th. 

All donations collected go back into the community. Once chipped, the trees are given to the municipality for use on park paths and trails.

Oak Bay Firefighters Tree Recycle

Recycle your tree by donation at Firefighters Park in support of the Oak Bay High School bursary fund, which was increased from $2,500 to $9,000 due to donations.

  • When: Saturday, January 3rd & Sunday, January 4th – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

St. Joseph the Worker Parish Tree Chipping & Bottle Drive

St. Joseph the Worker Parish will be  doing tree chipping and a joint bottle drive with the grade 7 class of St. Joseph’s Elementary School

  • Where: Firefighters Park, 1703 Monterey Avenue
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd & January 10th – starting 9 a.m.

Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club

Bring your Christmas tree to Windsor Park to support the Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club, and contribute to funding their youth rugby programs.

    • Saturday, January 3rd & Sunday, January 4th – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Saturday, January 10th & Sunday, January 11th – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

12th Garry Oak Sea Scouts

Show your support for young Garry Oak Sea Scouts by bringing your Christmas tree to their chipping fundraiser!

  • Where: Cadboro-Gyro Park, 2625 Sinclair Road
  • When: Saturday, January 3rd & Sunday, January 4th – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Community Living Victoria

Bring your natural Christmas tree to be chipped and recycled!

Bring a donation if you can—every contribution brightens lives and supports individuals with intellectual disabilities through Community Living Victoria.

Let’s turn your festive memories into hope for others – together we build a more inclusive community!

  • Where: 3861 Cedar Hill Cross Road
  • When: Saturday, January 10th & Sunday, January 11th – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

View Royal Elementary School PAC + View Royal FireSmart Program 

The View Royal Parent Advisory Council and the View Royal FireSmart Program are teaming up to host a tree chipping and bottle drive on Saturday, January 10th.

  • Where: View Royal Elementary School, 218 Helmcken Road
  • When: Saturday, January 10th – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
