Woman arrested after store worker assaulted during downtown Victoria theft

A 36-year-old woman has been arrested after a store employee was assaulted during a suspected theft in downtown Victoria on Thursday morning.

On Novemner 6th, just after 11:25 a.m., VicPD were called to the 1200-block of Government Street after witnesses reported that a woman had attacked an employee from a nearby business who tried to stop her from leaving the store.

Police located the woman nearby and arrested her without incident. They say she was carrying several items believed to have been stolen.

Police indentified the suspect as 36-year-old Ashley Olsen. She has been charged with theft and assault. Olsen was also wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court in connection with an earlier theft charge.

She was held in custody for a bail hearing and remains detained while the investigation continues.
