Sooke is buzzing this week after being featured one North America’s most popular games shows!

Viewers across continent got a glimpse of Vancouver Island’s beauty this week when Wheel of Fortune contestant Hope Gonzalez from Simi Valley, California, solved the prize puzzle “The Catch of the Day” and won a trip to the Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke.

Gonzalez’s big moment came during Wednesday night’s episode, which drew around 8 million viewers. Along with her correct solve, she took home a prize package worth $12,627, including an incredible seven-night stay on the island.

For Amy Nunn, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Prestige Hotels & Resorts, seeing the resort featured on the show was a thrill.

“It was such a fun thing to be a part of,” she told Victoria Buzz.

“We all know that our resort and the Sooke and Vancouver Island areas are beautiful, but it’s amazing to be able to showcase that to a larger audience in the United States and across Canada.”

Nunn said the show reached out earlier this year asking if Prestige would like to offer a prize, and the team “jumped at the chance.”

The resort donated a seven-night stay in an oceanview room, plus a $500 dining credit to its on-site restaurant West Coast Grill, a $500 spa credit to Coastal Tides Day Spa, free kayak, e-bike and stand-up paddleboard rentals, and a zipline adventure for two guests.

In addition, to that, the hotel features

After the episode aired, social media buzzed with excitement across Sooke.

“People were sharing clips of the show on their personal pages and local community groups,” Nunn said.

“There were hundreds of likes, shares, and comments from locals congratulating our staff and expressing pride in seeing their community on such a big stage.”

The resort’s website saw a noticeable jump in visitors overnight as fans and locals revisited the property’s offerings at prestigehotelsandresorts.com.

Prestige’s partnership with Wheel of Fortune doesn’t stop there. The company has also provided prizes for two other upcoming episodes featuring the Prestige Harbourfront Resort in Salmon Arm and the Prestige Lakeside Resort in Nelson.

The Sooke property itself may appear up to two more times this season, giving Vancouver Island even more national exposure.

And it’s not the first time Prestige has appeared on TV. The resort was previously featured on The Price is Right in 2022, when a California man won and later visited for a stay he described as “amazing.”

From luxurious oceanview rooms to its new marina and dock that welcomes boats and even seaplanes, the resort captures the best of west coast living.

Guests can relax at oceanfront firepits, enjoy fresh seafood, or head out on the water for a chance to catch their own dinner.

“Not only can you get picked up by fishing boat and spend the day fishing for crab, salmon, or halibut, but you can also catch a pretty amazing sunrise from your room,” Nunn said.

When Gonzalez arrives to claim her prize, she’ll be greeted with a welcome basket filled with local treats and plenty of recommendations for exploring Sooke and nearby Victoria.

Opened in 2012, the Prestige Oceanfront Resort has become a cornerstone of the Sooke community.

“We’ve always been proud to be part of Sooke,” Nunn said. “The resort has helped grow visitation, create jobs, and bring positive economic impact to the area. Residents take a lot of pride in their community, and we love being part of it.”

Prestige Hotels & Resorts remains family-owned and operated in British Columbia, with 19 locations in 14 cities across the province.

For those who missed the episode, it can be streamed on Peacock, Hulu, or On Demand through local TV networks.
