West Shore RCMP are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of pulling off a “quick change” scam at a Langford business.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. on November 25th near the 800 block of Langford Parkway.
Police say the suspect purchased a low-cost item using a high-denomination bill, then began asking the cashier for different denominations while presenting more money.
The tactic created confusion at the till and resulted in the suspect allegedly receiving more cash than he originally paid.
Investigators say they believe the same man may be linked to a similar fraud reported in Sidney earlier this month.
The suspect is described as a man with dark complexion, in his 40s, slim, with black hair and a receding hairline. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black jacket over a white hoodie, dark jeans and black shoes.
RCMP are reminding businesses to train staff to slow down cash transactions, avoid accepting large bills when possible and call for assistance if a customer’s requests begin to feel overwhelming or confusing.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact West Shore RCMP at (250) 474-2264. Anonymous tips can also be shared through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
