There’s a new ‘Fresh Air Museum’ on Government Street celebrating Victoria’s history

Learn about the rich history of your favourite Government Street businesses with their new Fresh Air Museum

Launched by the businesses that line this popular downtown Victoria street, this collaborative museum aims to highlight past and present in an interactive way–all without stepping foot inside.

The twelve businesses now have blue plaques with QR codes on their exteriors that allow you to easily scan and read about their stories.

Local favourites, like The Irish Times, the Murchie’s Building, and the Bard & Banker are just a few of the recognizable buildings participating in this project.

Not only will you discover how these iconic businesses started, but you will also learn about the property owners who have invested in maintaining these historic buildings.

This project was developed with the research and support of Denton Pendergast, whose writing and design infused this self-guided walking tour with history.

“Communities are built stronger when our mutual stories are shared,” said Pendergast.

The Fresh Air Museum brings that idea to life, inviting locals to uncover what is beneath the surface of the buildings they walk past every day.

It’s a reminder that history is always close at hand, just waiting to be discovered.

Ready to explore? Grab your phone and head over to Government Street to understand why it’s one of Victoria’s most beloved and vibrant streets.
