North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have launched an investigation after two men were found dead at an industrial property in Chemainus early Friday morning.

Police were called at approximately 6:01 a.m. on November 21st to a facility located in an industrial area of the community.

Officers arrived shortly after the report and confirmed both men were deceased. Members of the General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services have taken over the file, and police say it remains in the early stages.

According to RCMP, the incident appears to be isolated and there is no immediate risk to the public.

No cause of death has been released.

The deaths occurred at a facility that is linked to the company Mosaic Forest Management.

Photos from the area showed a fenced lot leading to a small one-storey building marked with the Kaatza Group forestry logo was taped off throughout the morning, and officers in white protective suits were seen examining the property.

Mosaic Forest Management issued a statement Friday confirming it was notified of “an incident that occurred overnight at an independent contractor’s facility on Vancouver Island.”

The company added they have since suspended operations for the day out of respect for those affected, adding, “Our thoughts are with everyone impacted.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment at 250-748-5522.
