BC Highway Patrol has located a black Honda Civic that was in the area of a fatal collision on Highway 1 near Morden Road earlier this month.
The crash, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. on November 2nd, claimed the life of an 18-year-old Nanaimo man who was a passenger in a black Audi S3 sedan that caught fire after leaving the road.
The 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Both occupants of the Honda Civic who were in the area are cooperating with police,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
“There is a lot of community chatter about this incident, and we are looking for more witnesses and video to establish exactly what happened.”
Rumours circulating online suggest the vehicles may have been racing, but investigators have not confirmed whether street racing played any role in the crash.
Investigators are continuing to build a detailed timeline of events and say surveillance video has already proven useful.
“We would like to thank every witness who has stepped forward,” McLaughlin added. “These investigations are highly technical and take a long time, but with continued help from the public, we will solve this.”
Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or video related to the crash is asked to contact BC Highway Patrol – Duncan at 250-746-2751 and quote file 2025-2168.
