Construction has officially begun on the new skate park in Sooke.
On Monday, November 17th, Sooke Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) broke ground on the new Sooke Skate Park project.
The hope is that this project will provide a vibrant and inclusive space for youth and families to enjoy active recreation.
The existing skate park in Sooke was originally built in 1997 by the Rotary Club of Sooke, and has been well-loved and well-used to the point of needing a replacement.
This new skate park will be located at 6522 Throup Road and will feature both street and vertical elements with various surf-inspired transitions, a mini-ramp and an organic bowl.
The park’s design was developed hand-in-hand with members of the skate community who provided input at several design workshops, and through online surveys.
Once complete, the new and improved Sooke Skate Park will become an important community hub for skateboarders, bikers and scooter riders to gather, socialize and be active with friends, says SEAPARC.
“This skatepark [sic] represents more than just a recreational space—it’s a commitment to creating opportunities for youth and fostering a sense of community,” said Al Beddows, Chair of the SEAPARC Recreation Commission.
“We are proud to see this vision come to life.”
The new park is expected to be completed in April 2026, and is budgeted to cost $1.1 million.
While the new skate park is being built, a temporary skate park will be located at the Ravens Ridge Park Sport Box, at 2430 Phillips Road.
SEAPARC will handle monitoring the park, which will be available for use from dawn to dusk.
