‘Welcome to the Creepshow’: Burlesque and drag show coming to historic Alix Goolden Hall

This November, a full-scale burlesque and drag production will take place at one of Victoria’s most iconic venues, the historic Alix Goolden Hall.

This will be the second edition of ‘Welcome to the Creepshow,’ which is bringing world-class burlesque and drag talent to the city.

According to organizer and burlesque performer Vera Descent, this event aims to highlight the growing visibility of queer performance in Victoria’s arts landscape.

Additionally, she says the production is coming at a crucial time, as many venues across the city are closing or shifting toward bar-based shows, which often lack proper lighting, sound and accessibility for larger-scale productions such as this one.

“Being able to approach a venue like Alix Goolden with a bold, extravagant concept – and have them embrace it – feels incredible, especially when burlesque is still often seen as taboo,” Descent told Victoria Buzz.

“This event represents more than just a show — it’s about reclaiming space for our community, elevating the art form, and proving that burlesque and drag belong on big, beautiful stages. It’s a powerful moment for us as artists and for the audiences who believe in what we do.

The headliner of the show will be international burlesque star Bettie Bombshell, who hails from Australia and was recently named one of the top 50 burlesque industry figures in the world.

Local drag king Eddi Licious will be hosting the event, who is a celebrated performer known for blending theatricality and wit.

Additionally, attendees can look forward to performances from the likes of Cherry Cheeks, Persi Flage, Holly Shirt, Call Us Men, Henrietta Dubet and more.

Descent says that Welcome to the Creepshow seeks to reimagine the classic horror aesthetic, combining monsters and cabaret to extend Halloween for one more glamorous weekend.

“I want attendees to walk away feeling like they were part of something truly unique – not just spectators, but immersed in the story we’re telling. I want them to be swept up in the atmosphere, the artistry, and the sheer talent on stage,” said Descent.

“I hope this show sparks excitement for people who may have never experienced burlesque or drag before and re-ignites the love for live performance.”

She added that she hopes people leave the show feeling curious, inspired and eager to explore more diverse shows happening around the city.

Welcome to the Creepshow will be taking place on Saturday, November 8th and is sure to be memorable for all in attendance!
