There will be a new addition between the pipes for the Victoria Royals in the near future, and it’s one you may recognize.
The Royals announced on Thursday that they have acquired 2006-born goaltender Jake Pilon from division rivals the Kelowna Rockets, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2029 draft.
Pilon is a Calgary product and was originally drafted in the 8th round in 2021 by the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Since then, he’s tallied 63 games in the WHL—this was across two seasons with the Rockets.
During that time, Pilon clocked a .877 save percentage and 4.24 goals against average.
Additionally, he was listed in NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Term 2025 NHL Draft rankings, and went on to attend the San Jose Sharks 2025 Development Camp this past July.
According to the Royals, Pilon is expected to hit the ice for Saturday night’s contest versus the Medicine Hat Tigers.
This isn’t the only reported movement for the Royals though, as they also announced they would bereassigning 2009-born goaltender Seth Badry to the U18 St Albert Raiders.
2007-born forward Daniel Morozov has also been released, as revealed yesterday.
