Get ready, Victoria!

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Greater Victoria, with strong southeast winds expected to develop along Haro Strait this evening.

The weather agency says gusts could reach 90 km/h in neighbourhoods near Haro Strait as a vigorous frontal system approaches the BC coast. Sustained southeast winds are expected to reach around 70 km/h with gusts up to 90 km/h early this evening.

Winds are forecast to ease later in the night. Environment Canada says the system will swing the winds around to the southwest late this evening, at around 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h — up to 60 km/h near Juan de Fuca Strait.

People in coastal areas are advised to secure loose outdoor items, use caution if driving in areas with large roadside trees, and be prepared for possible interruptions to power.

Environment Canada encourages residents to continue monitoring weather alerts and forecasts.
