Craigdarroch Castle is once again inviting visitors to step into the shadows of history with the return of its popular after-hours experience.
Following a string of sold-out shows last year, the 90-minute guided tour is back, running weekends through to November 2nd, with an additional performance on Halloween night.
Each evening from 4:30 to 6 p.m., guests will explore the Castle after closing time and uncover the macabre customs and stories that shaped the Victorian era.
During the mid-1800s, death was a daily reality in Victorian society—an ever-present force that influenced everything from art to social gatherings.
Hair art, séances, and elaborate mourning rituals were common, offering a haunting glimpse into how people of the time coped with loss.
The tour reveals the darker side of the Dunsmuir family’s story, including a mysterious event that saw 500 masked guests carrying torches through the night, and a tale of whether a medium truly predicted Robert Dunsmuir’s death.
Guided by expert storytellers, participants will climb the Castle’s 87 steps while exploring the secrets of the 19th century, gaining a rare and eerie perspective on life, death, and the supernatural.
Tickets for Curiosities of Craigdarroch are $32 plus fees and must be purchased in advance through Eventbrite, by calling 250-592-5323, or visiting the Craigdarroch Castle Visitor Centre at 1050 Joan Crescent.
