Did you know that this Friday is World Mental Health Day?
Each year on October 10th, World Mental Health Day marks an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
It was first celebrated in 1992, and a World Federation for Mental Health initiative—who’s a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
This year, the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), British Columbia’s largest association of clinical counsellors and psychotherapists, successfully requested the Government of BC to light up the parliament building in Victoria in green.
The Legislature’s ceremonial entrance, front fountain, back fountain, confederation garden park and waterfall on Friday from dusk to 1 a.m.
According to the BCACC, the same is being done in Vancouver this Friday, at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Green is the colour associated with World Mental Health Day, and BCACC says the reasoning behind this initiative is to drive awareness about mental health, remove stigma, and remind people to seek professional help when required.
